Overview

At Cormark, we have always believed a great investment bank is built through a strong connection to the capital markets.
Cormark Securities, Sales & Trading page (2025)

Cormark's research focused on Canadian mid-cap and emerging-growth companies, supporting an investment banking business that participated in more than 1,000 equity financings raising over $100 billion in the decade to 2025. Its analysts now publish under ATB Cormark Capital Markets. Cormark said it relied on its analysts as the fundamental drivers of its sales, trading and investment banking.

Eric Sprott founded the firm as Sprott Securities in 1981. After deciding to focus on asset management, he reduced his ownership to a minority stake in 2000 and sold the remainder to employees effective January 2002. The firm adopted the Cormark Securities name in 2007. Under employee ownership, it operated research, sales, trading and investment banking businesses from Toronto and Calgary. ATB Financial agreed to acquire it in August 2025, completed the deal in December, and combined it with ATB Capital Markets in February 2026 to form ATB Cormark Capital Markets.

Research philosophy

Cormark sought to generate new investment ideas by identifying companies whose growth strategies could make them $1 billion-plus businesses.
