Profile

ConocoPhillipsCOPEnergy

Produces and markets crude oil, natural gas, natural gas liquids, bitumen and LNG across geographically organized operations. The Lower 48 supplies most production, while conventional, oil-sands and LNG assets diversify a portfolio whose cash generation remains tied to commodity prices.

Explores for, develops, produces, transports and markets crude oil, natural gas, natural gas liquids, bitumen and LNG. Operations span Alaska, the Lower 48, Canada, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and Asia Pacific, with the Lower 48 supplying most production. The portfolio combines Permian, Eagle Ford and Bakken shale with Alaska, Canadian oil sands, international conventional fields and equity LNG projects.

Uses scale, reservoir expertise and large development programs to bring resources to market through global commodity channels. Capital allocation centers on fully burdened cost of supply; the Marathon Oil acquisition expanded U.S. unconventional inventory, while subsequent noncore sales concentrated the portfolio. Results remain tied to oil and gas prices, drilling and project execution, transportation access, permits and environmental rules, and host-country and joint-venture conditions.

Peers

  • ExxonMobil

Largest US E&P operator; Permian scale and LNG dwarf every independent peer.

  • Chevron

Integrated US major; Permian, Alaska, and LNG in direct upstream overlap.

  • EOG Resources

Closest pure-play E&P peer; shares COP's cost-discipline and returns model.

  • Occidental Petroleum

Permian-centric independent; OxyChem sale sharpens pure-play E&P focus.

  • Devon Energy

US onshore pure-play; Delaware Basin and Eagle Ford overlap with COP's Lower 48.

  • Diamondback Energy

Permian-only pure-play; lowest-cost Permian operator and acreage rival to COP.
