Develops inhibitors of the complement pathway C5a and C5aR for inflammatory diseases. The programs apply selective complement-pathway intervention. Izicopan, an oral C5aR inhibitor, is the lead development program, with planning underway for ANCA-associated vasculitis and evaluation in additional renal diseases.
Vilobelimab is an intravenous anti-C5a antibody available in the United States under an emergency authorization for defined hospitalized adults with COVID-19; it is not FDA-approved for that use. The Jena-based group also has operations in Germany and Ann Arbor, while resource allocation predominantly favors izicopan and further hidradenitis suppurativa work depends on a partner.
