Profile

IMAX CorporationIMAXCommunication Services

Sells and leases premium theater systems, maintains the installed network, and remasters and distributes films for presentation in its format. Exhibitors run nearly every venue, while system agreements and film releases generate upfront, recurring, and box-office-linked revenue.

Sells and leases premium theater systems, licenses its trademarks, and supplies ongoing maintenance through Technology Products and Services. Content Solutions remasters films for its projection and sound formats, distributes that content across the network, and handles documentaries, events, and post-production work. Proprietary projection, audio, auditorium design, remastering, and network monitoring support consistent premium presentations.

Operates chiefly as a technology and content partner: exhibitors own and run nearly every venue, while sales, long-term leases, and joint revenue-sharing agreements generate system income. Film remastering and distribution add a share of box office receipts. Most commercial systems are outside the United States and Canada, and Greater China is the largest market. Revenue depends on exhibitor investment and installations, studio and filmmaker access, release schedules, and the box office performance of third-party content.
