Overview
R.F. Lafferty says it has grown one client relationship at a time, never through mass marketing. The firm has no proprietary products, which it says lets it choose from a broad range of products to suit each client.
Ralph F. Lafferty founded the firm in 1946 as a brokers' broker. Henry Hackel acquired it in 1970, and the Hackel family has run it since; the firm began offering registered investment adviser services in 2006. Robert Hackel, chief operating officer for nearly three decades, became chief executive in June 2026, the year the firm marked its 80th anniversary and opened an office in Boca Raton, Florida.

Research philosophy
Independent thinking is what assures our clients the most consistently objective advice to help them achieve their financial goals.
R.F. Lafferty describes its research as independent and seeks both overvalued and undervalued small- and mid-cap companies. Its published coverage has focused on electric-vehicle makers, EV-charging networks and other clean-transport companies. A quantitative research group also uses proprietary methods to identify pricing inefficiencies in equities, options and ETFs.
