Profile
Operates regulated telecom and fiber networks in geographies national carriers have bypassed. Domestic operations center on Alaska and rural western U.S. markets; international operations, under the One Communications brand, span Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Guyana, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with revenue split about evenly between the two segments.
Operates regulated fixed and wireless networks across two segments. U.S. Telecom centers on Alaska Communications and rural broadband providers serving the Navajo Nation and other western communities; International Telecom, branded One Communications, covers Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Guyana, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
A multi-year fiber-and-tower buildout, branded Glass and Steel, has shifted revenue away from wholesale roaming and legacy voice toward owned fiber networks and managed carrier services, with long-term agreements with AT&T and Verizon anchoring the Alaska build; retail mobility in the western United States was recently discontinued.
Founded in 1987 through a leveraged buyout of a Virgin Islands telephone carrier and public since 1991, the company still holds an exclusive Guyana license that the government has since moved to open to competition — a dispute it says could trigger compensation if its rights are terminated involuntarily.
