Operates the adjacent Hangingstone Demo and Hangingstone Expansion oil-sands facilities in Alberta's Athabasca region, using steam-assisted gravity drainage. Greenfire holds the full working interest in Demo and a three-quarter interest in Expansion.
Its operating base was assembled through the 2018 Demo acquisition and restart and the 2021 acquisition of operatorship in Expansion. The facilities share the McMurray Formation reservoir, and water-disposal wells and Expansion truck offloading offer connections to pipeline infrastructure.
The business is concentrated in these thermal assets and relies on their existing infrastructure. A proposed acquisition of Connacher Oil and Gas remains subject to approvals and other closing conditions.
