Profile

The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc.HIGFinancials

Underwrites commercial and personal property-and-casualty policies and provides employer-sponsored disability, life, leave and supplemental health benefits. Premiums and investment income drive the economics; Business Insurance is the largest operation, Personal Insurance relies heavily on the AARP program, and Hartford Funds is being sold.

Underwrites commercial property and casualty coverage through Business Insurance, spanning small commercial, middle and large commercial, and Global Specialty. Products include workers’ compensation, package and property, general liability, marine and professional liability. Most premiums come from the United States, with specialty operations overseas.

Sells auto and homeowners policies through Personal Insurance, largely under an exclusive AARP licensing arrangement. Employee Benefits provides group disability, life, leave and supplemental health coverage to employers. Agents, brokers and affinity partners distribute policies, while claims specialists and data analytics support claims decisions and return-to-work services.

Premiums and investment income fund claims, with results dependent on loss estimation, catastrophes, regulation and reinsurance. Property & Casualty Other Operations manages legacy runoff without writing new business. Hartford Funds is reported as discontinued operations under a pending sale to Wellington Management.

A 13F quarter can total more than the shares outstanding — sub-advisers file the same block twice, and a filer's own share count can be a quarter stale. No split is drawn from it.
