Profile

NewtekOne, Inc.NEWTFinancials

Grew from a 1998 tax-credit financing vehicle into a diversified small-business platform, then converted into a Federal Reserve-regulated bank holding company in 2023 by acquiring a New York bank. The group now pairs a digital-only bank with SBA lending, payments, payroll, insurance, and technology services for independent business owners nationwide.

Began in 1998 as a New York tax-credit financing vehicle, then built a small-business services group before converting into a Federal Reserve-regulated bank holding company in 2023 by acquiring a decades-old New York bank. The business now pairs a digital-only, branchless bank with SBA lending, merchant payment processing, payroll, insurance brokerage, and technology services under one brand.

Roughly eighty thousand independent business owners across the United States are served, drawn mainly through the lending and payments lines. SBA 7(a) loans, once originated through a non-bank affiliate ranked among the largest SBA lenders nationally, now originate directly on the bank's balance sheet.

The bank conversion shifted oversight from securities regulators to the Federal Reserve, the OCC, and the FDIC, while runoff of the pre-conversion SBA loan book continues to weigh on results.
