Profile

Park-Ohio Holdings Corp.PKOHIndustrials

Runs three largely separate manufacturing and supply-chain businesses — sourcing fasteners and production parts for other manufacturers, building fuel-system components for vehicles, and making induction-heating and forging equipment — under a family-controlled, deliberately decentralized ownership structure that leaves each acquired brand's operations largely intact.

Three largely independent divisions make up the business: an outsourced fastener-and-supply-chain platform serving manufacturers, a maker of fuel-transport components for combustion and electrified vehicles, and a group of niche industrial-equipment makers building induction-heating systems, forging presses, and forged aerospace and rail parts.

Manufacturing and logistics span roughly 130 sites across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, with more employees abroad than at home; Cleveland, Ohio has served as headquarters since the business began as a forging shop in 1907.

A dissident shareholder took control amid a prolonged labor dispute and rebuilt the group as a decentralized roll-up, folding in dozens of acquisitions while leaving each brand's operations largely intact; his family has run the company since, and continued family leadership is written into the company's credit-agreement terms, with automotive and heavy-duty-truck demand cycles driving most of the revenue.
