Invests primarily in privately owned U.S. middle-market companies through senior secured first-lien loans. Selected exposures include second-lien debt, equity and equity-linked investments, with the stated objective of current income and long-term capital appreciation.
Operates as a Nasdaq-listed, closed-end business development company under an external-management structure. Prospect Capital Management manages the investments, while Prospect Administration provides administration and facilities.
BDC status under the Investment Company Act of 1940 and regulated-investment-company treatment under Subchapter M shape the operating model. Investment execution depends on the adviser’s ability to identify, analyze, invest in and monitor qualifying companies, along with access to acceptable financing.
