Profile

The Scotts Miracle-Gro CompanySMGMaterials

Sells branded grass seed, plant food, lawn care and garden products through a North American consumer platform. The business traces its roots to consumer seed and the Scotts–Miracle-Gro combination, and now focuses on its core after the Hawthorne sale.

Consumer lawn and garden products draw on the Scotts and Miracle-Gro lineages, spanning grass seed, plant food and lawn-care offerings. The brand system expanded through exclusive consumer marketing rights for Roundup weed control and the Ortho acquisition.

Operations are concentrated in North America, with U.S. Consumer as the central business and Canadian consumer lawn and garden in Other. Consumer advice, product guarantees and a long-running helpline shape the operating model. Hawthorne Gardening, the indoor and hydroponics subsidiary, was sold in 2026 after cannabis-sector volatility prompted a return to core lawn and garden.
