Profile

Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile S.A.SQMMaterials

Produces lithium and derivatives, iodine, specialty plant nutrients, potassium products, and industrial chemicals from Chilean caliche and brine plus Australian hard rock. Integrated processing reaches multiple chemical markets, while products from Salar de Atacama generate roughly half of revenue and now operate through the state-partnered Nova Andino Litio venture.

Produces lithium carbonate and hydroxide, iodine and derivatives, specialty plant nutrients, potassium products, and industrial chemicals. Northern Chilean caliche supplies nitrates and iodine, Salar de Atacama brine supplies lithium and potassium, and Western Australian spodumene supports a second lithium chain linked to Kwinana refining.

Integrated extraction and conversion turn three mineral systems into multiple chemical products. Production remains concentrated in Chile, while Australia adds hard-rock lithium and China adds conversion capacity. The portfolio spans several end markets rather than relying on lithium alone.

Products originating in Salar de Atacama generate roughly half of revenue. Those operations sit inside Nova Andino Litio under long-dated Corfo contracts, with SQM initially retaining operating control before Codelco assumes it. Environmental obligations require staged reductions in brine and industrial-water extraction, and the Australian refinery remains in ramp-up.
