Lends to Bay Area operating companies, real estate developers, and construction projects, while two nationwide platforms bank venture-capital- and private-equity-backed borrowers and provide sponsor finance, asset-based lending, and receivables financing. Revenue comes from the spread between loan yields and deposit costs, with deposits concentrated among institutionally-backed clients.

Operates a single California state-chartered bank subsidiary built around five lending divisions. Three serve Bay Area operating companies and real estate developers directly — corporate banking, commercial real estate, and construction lending — drawing on decades of relationship banking rooted in Silicon Valley.

Two additional divisions extend the franchise nationwide: a venture lending platform serving VC- and PE-backed technology companies and their sponsors, and a specialty finance arm covering sponsor-backed acquisition loans, asset-based lending, and receivables financing for lower-middle-market borrowers across industries.

Earnings come from the spread between loan yields and deposit costs, with a meaningful share of deposits tied to venture- and sponsor-backed borrowing relationships rather than traditional retail accounts. Chartered in 2003 and rebranded from a community-bank identity, the bank uplisted to Nasdaq in 2025 after years of trading over the counter.
