Profile

The Marcus CorporationMCSCommunication Services

Operates a fourth-largest US movie theatre circuit alongside a portfolio of full-service hotels and resorts, deriving revenue from box office admissions, concessions, and hotel room and event bookings. The Marcus family retains voting control through super-voting shares, and the company owns most of the real estate beneath its theatres and hotels rather than leasing it.

Runs two hospitality businesses: a movie theatre circuit under the Marcus Theatres, Movie Tavern, and BistroPlex brands, and a portfolio of full-service hotels operated under its own names — including Milwaukee's Pfister Hotel — and under Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, and IHG flags.

The theatre circuit ranks fourth-largest nationally, spread across more than a dozen states; the hotel portfolio sits in a smaller cluster of states, both rooted in the company's Wisconsin base since its 1935 founding.

A majority-owned real estate model underlies both segments, keeping fixed costs low relative to peers that lease. Voting control rests with the founding Marcus family through super-voting shares, now in its third generation of family leadership.

Theatre results track the strength of the film release slate, while hotel results depend on group and leisure travel demand concentrated around the Milwaukee market.
