Provides loans, credit facilities and related financing to rural electric cooperatives and affiliated utility, telecommunications and broadband businesses. A member-owned nonprofit cooperative, it earns principally interest on loans and funds lending through debt markets, member investments and federal-guaranteed facilities.
Connects rural electric cooperatives and related utility businesses with debt financing, operating as a member-owned, nonprofit cooperative that supplements federal Rural Utilities Service lending. Its CFC segment provides long-term loans, revolving credit, letters of credit, guarantees, syndications and loan resales for distribution systems, power suppliers and cooperative organizations.
Its NCSC affiliate, doing business as Utility Capital Solutions, finances electric-cooperative affiliates, rural telecommunications and broadband providers, equipment and qualifying projects. It pairs direct lending with syndications and loan resales to structure member financing needs.
Operations are entirely domestic, serving borrowers across nearly every state. Interest on loans provides most revenue, supported by fees and service income; funding comes from debt markets, member investments, federal-guaranteed facilities and other sources. Funding access and costs depend on capital markets and credit ratings, while the loan book is concentrated in electric-utility organizations.
