Originates and services Private Education Loans for students and families, while offering FDIC-insured deposit products. Distribution combines campus financial-aid-office relationships with online and direct marketing; its relationship-management team works with more than 2,100 higher-education institutions.
The present consumer bank emerged from the 2014 separation of Navient and includes Sallie Mae Bank, an industrial bank established in 2005. It is a focused private-education lender rather than the former broader student-loan organization. Its loans are not made, insured, or guaranteed by state or federal governments, and its team members are all based in the United States.

Ownership
A 13F quarter can total more than the shares outstanding — sub-advisers file the same block twice, and a filer's own share count can be a quarter stale. No split is drawn from it.
