Profile
Operates a federal savings bank funded mostly by core deposits and lending largely into residential mortgages, positioned as a low-cost provider rather than a scale or premium-service player. The branch network spans New York's Capital Region plus Florida, Vermont, Massachusetts, and New Jersey, built almost entirely by opening new branches rather than buying other banks.
Operates a savings-and-loan holding company whose subsidiary is a federal savings bank funded chiefly by core deposits and lending mostly into residential mortgages. It presents itself as a low-cost provider of traditional banking products, with fiduciary and trust services tracing back to its founding.
Founded in 1902 in Schenectady, New York, the franchise grew into a network of more than 130 branches across New York, Florida, Vermont, Massachusetts, and New Jersey almost entirely by opening new branches rather than acquiring other banks. Florida is the largest footprint outside New York.
Two generations of one family have led the company for roughly four decades, with the current chief executive holding the chairman, president, and chief executive titles at once. Conservative underwriting and a streak of more than a century of consecutive dividend payments run through the business, alongside recent share buybacks.
