Overview
China Renaissance covers Chinese internet, consumer and technology companies listed in Hong Kong and the United States. Its US unit also rates US-listed companies from other countries. In 2014, founder Bao Fan said investing in companies the firm advises helped clients see it as a partner. China Renaissance calls this its "Investment + Investment Banking" model. Its 2020 annual report said research from the investment business helps its bankers choose sectors and clients. The firm identifies long-term potential as a priority over short-term gains.
Bao Fan, a former Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse banker, founded China Renaissance in 2005 as an advisor to Chinese startups. It obtained securities licences in Hong Kong in 2012, the United States in 2013 and mainland China in 2016, advised on the 2015 Didi–Kuaidi and Meituan–Dianping mergers, and listed in Hong Kong in 2018. Bao was detained by Chinese authorities in 2023 and resigned in 2024; Wang Lixing became chief executive in November 2024.
