Research philosophy
We make key adjustments to reported financial data eliminating GAAP-based accounting distortions and measuring all companies on a cash operating basis.
Tigress treats economic profit—after-tax operating profit less the opportunity cost of invested capital—as the primary driver of shareholder value. Its proprietary models score companies on 24 measures of business performance, risk and valuation. As of 2026, its website describes a Gold Mines list of stocks with low relative valuations and growing economic profit, and a Land Mines list highlighting weakening fundamentals and discrepancies in accounting measures. It also offers two portfolios based on its research: one concentrated and one entirely quantitative.
Rating methodology
Ratings are Strong Buy, Buy, Neutral, Underperform and Sell, measured against the industry peer group and the S&P 500 over 12 months.
