Profile
Produces high-calorific-value and sub-bituminous thermal coal for power and industrial users, plus metallurgical coal for steelmaking. Four segments span Appalachian and Western mines and the rail-linked Core Marine Terminal in Baltimore, with revenue split across U.S. and export customers.
Mines high-calorific-value thermal coal at the Pennsylvania Mining Complex and West Elk, metallurgical coal at five West Virginia mines, and sub-bituminous thermal coal at Black Thunder and Coal Creek in Wyoming. Customers include U.S. power generators and domestic and international steel and industrial users.
Pairs large-scale longwall and surface mines with rail connections and two East Coast export outlets. The wholly owned Core Marine Terminal at Baltimore stores, blends, and loads coal, while a minority interest in Dominion Terminal adds Newport News access. Most Baltimore throughput originates at the Pennsylvania complex.
Revenue remains tied to coal prices and demand across power, steel, and industrial markets. Mine permits, environmental and safety regulation, rail and port availability, and seaborne trade conditions govern production and delivery.
