Profile
Provides commercial and retail banking alongside trust, wealth-management, and insurance services through a network anchored in northeastern Ohio and extending into western Pennsylvania. Rather than growing organically, the bank — chartered in 1887 in Canfield, Ohio — has expanded mainly by acquiring a series of smaller community banks over the past decade.
Commercial and retail banking runs through The Farmers National Bank of Canfield, chartered in Ohio in 1887 — deposit accounts alongside commercial and mortgage lending. Farmers Trust Company adds personal and corporate trust, retirement-plan, and wealth-management services, and an affiliated insurance agency distributes property and life coverage.
The branch network is concentrated in northeastern Ohio's Mahoning Valley and reaches into western and central Pennsylvania, expanding into adjacent counties rather than distant markets.
Growth has come almost entirely from acquiring smaller community banks — seven such deals over the past decade — rather than from new branches or new products.
An election as a financial holding company under federal banking law sets the boundaries of the insurance, securities, and other nonbank activities it can add alongside traditional deposit-taking.
