Profile

Metallus Inc.MTUSMaterials

Runs an electric-arc-furnace operation in Canton, Ohio that turns recycled scrap into special bar quality steel bars, seamless mechanical tubing, and precision manufactured components, selling into automotive, industrial, aerospace-and-defense, and energy end-markets under a single reporting segment.

Melts recycled scrap metal in electric-arc furnaces to produce alloy, carbon, and micro-alloy special bar quality steel bars, seamless mechanical tubing, and precision manufactured components, extending into gears, axles, crankshafts, and artillery and mortar bodies.

Sales split across automotive, industrial, aerospace-and-defense, and energy customers, with manufactured components made at downstream facilities outside the main Ohio melt shop. Aerospace-and-defense has grown as a share of sales, backed by a multi-year US Army agreement to expand furnace capacity for munitions-grade steel.

Operations trace to steelmaking begun in 1917 for a former parent's bearing business, spinning off as an independent company in 2014 and later taking its present name. All melting and finishing capacity sits in Ohio, with Canton workers under a multi-year labor agreement.

Demand tracks automotive, industrial, and energy cycles, and a concentrated customer roster accounts for roughly half of sales.
