Profile
Operates hydro, wind and solar, gas, and energy-transition assets alongside energy marketing. Its fleet spans Canada, the United States, and Western Australia after the reunification of its renewables affiliate.
Operates four generation businesses—Hydro, Wind and Solar, Gas, and Energy Transition—alongside Energy Marketing. The fleet supplies and markets power across Canada, the United States, and Western Australia.
Its renewable operations sit alongside gas-fired facilities, rather than forming a stand-alone renewable utility within the parent company. TransAlta reunited its separately listed renewables affiliate in 2023, bringing it back under the parent company.
Alberta's mandated coal retirement drove conversions of the company's thermal facilities to gas. Operations remain shaped by federal and provincial conversion policy, carbon-price rules, gas supply, pipeline construction, and Alberta capacity-market developments.
