Dana Telsey founded TAG in August 2006 after serving as a senior managing director at Bear Stearns. Institutional Investor had ranked her the No. 1 specialty stores analyst for seven consecutive years through 2005. In 2015, she also founded Telsey Consumer Fund Management to manage a consumer-focused long/short hedge fund. In December 2024, TAG agreed to supply U.S. retail and consumer research to clients of Santander's U.S. broker-dealer. The firm is certified as a Woman-Owned Business Enterprise.

Research philosophy
I’m a huge believer in visiting stores.
As of 2026, TAG's weekly channel checks combine online monitoring of merchandise and promotions with store visits to assess customer traffic, markdowns, inventory and product trends. Dana Telsey says the firm uses qualitative and quantitative analysis to understand how companies grow, achieve scale and develop lasting competitive advantages. Its CEO letter describes the core task as assessing prospects for sales and profit growth in relation to valuation.
