Processes ferrous and nonferrous scrap through Empire Services yards, selling metal to steel and metals markets while earning hauling and minor rental income. Its economics hinge on the spread between buyer prices and scrap-acquisition, transport and processing costs.
Operates Empire Services, a network of scrap-metal yards across Virginia, North Carolina and Ohio. The operation buys or collects end-of-life vehicles, appliances, equipment and industrial scrap, then classifies, crushes, shears, shreds and sorts ferrous and nonferrous material for steel producers and other metal processors. Hauling supports both collection and delivery, while other revenue is primarily rental income.
Earns its main spread by resetting scrap-purchase prices as prevailing buyer prices change, with volume, separation equipment, yard locations and operating synergies central to the model. Operations depend on local permits, physical yards, trucks and two automotive shredders, while sales and supplier activity are concentrated in Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The business faces cyclical metal demand and competition from larger recyclers, vertically integrated steel mills and smaller independent yards.
