Profile
Operates as a Missouri-based bank holding company built through decades of acquiring small community banks across Arkansas, Illinois, and Kansas, funding real estate, agricultural, and commercial lending with a low-cost base of local core deposits.
Grew from a Missouri thrift chartered in 1887 into a bank holding company through a 1994 stock-conversion offering, then a later charter conversion that turned the operating bank into a state trust company with full banking powers under Federal Reserve oversight.
Since then, expansion has come almost entirely through acquiring small community banks in Arkansas, Illinois, and Kansas, each folded into the Missouri-based operating bank, Southern Bank, for its local deposit base as much as its loan book — a strategy directed by the same chief executive for more than two decades.
Serves commercial, agricultural, and retail customers across a four-state Midwest and mid-South footprint, regulated jointly by the Missouri Division of Finance and the Federal Reserve.
