Profile

The E.W. Scripps CompanySSPCommunication Services

Operates two segments: a group of local television stations reaching roughly a quarter of American households, and a portfolio of national multicast networks distributed over the air, on cable, and through streaming. Advertising, including a cyclical political component, generates most of its revenue.

A group of network-affiliated television stations spans dozens of markets, reaching roughly a quarter of American households through ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, and CW affiliates. They produce local news, sports, and entertainment programming, plus digital operations, and sell advertising to local and regional businesses.

A separate portfolio of national, ad-supported multicast networks — including ION, Court TV, and Scripps News — reaches viewers over the air, on cable, and through connected-TV apps, built mainly through acquisitions rather than organic launches.

Advertising drives most revenue across both segments, with a political component that swings between election and non-election years; retransmission-consent payments and FCC ownership limits shape how far the station group can expand.

A family trust holds shares with outsized voting power, so ultimate control rests with that trust rather than the public shareholders who own most of the economic interest.
