Overview

When Evercore and ISI combined in 2014, the research platform covered about 620 companies across 12 industries. In 2025, its sales team served more than 1,200 institutional clients, and 44 analysts were ranked in the Extel survey, including 14 at No. 1. Evercore's 2025 annual report describes research as central to the platform's sales business.

Economists Ed Hyman and Nancy Lazar founded International Strategy & Investment (ISI) in 1991. Evercore, founded by Roger Altman in 1995, began U.S. institutional equities operations in June 2010. In October 2014 Evercore acquired ISI's operating businesses and the roughly 40% of its equities unit it did not already own, combining them as Evercore ISI with Hyman as chairman. It operates alongside Evercore's advisory investment banking business.

Research philosophy

Our Street-leading Macro franchise lies at the center of our research process and sets the stage for our fundamental views of the markets.
Evercore ISI, research overview

Economics, Washington policy and technical analysis teams complement Evercore ISI's fundamental coverage of healthcare, technology, financials, industrials, consumer, energy and real estate. Evercore's 2025 annual report describes the business as an independent source of equity and macroeconomic research. Several sector teams gather their own data through fieldwork, dealer surveys and proprietary leading indicators. As of 2026, a dedicated team also surveys companies, investors, U.S. states, and teens and young adults to assess economic conditions and market sentiment.
