Overview
In 2017, New Street published research on more than 150 telecom companies for more than 200 institutional clients. Several of its senior analysts have held top positions in Institutional Investor rankings. The firm says its business model allows it to spend more on people and data than its rivals, and it recruits from consulting, engineering and policy as well as finance.
Iain Johnston, formerly global head of telecom research at J.P. Morgan, founded New Street Research in London in 2003 as a communications-services specialist. The firm added technology infrastructure coverage in 2018 when Pierre Ferragu joined from Bernstein. David Barden joined from Bank of America in 2025 to lead North American telecom research. In May 2026, New Street launched its Space Economy and Infrastructure research practice.

Research philosophy
We believe our work is only truly valuable when it uncovers insights that others have missed.
New Street Research says it concentrates its resources on a few issues where its analysts can offer a distinct perspective and where the outcome matters to clients. A data analytics team supports its sector research, and the firm says it builds its own datasets when the information it needs does not exist. Its 2025 independence policy states that analysts' pay is not tied to specific transactions.
