Bob James founded Robert A. James Investments in St. Petersburg, Florida, in 1962; a 1964 deal with Edward Raymond's Raymond and Associates created Raymond James & Associates. The 2001 purchase of Goepel McDermid created Canadian affiliate Raymond James Ltd., and the 2012 acquisition of Morgan Keegan expanded its capital markets business. Paul Shoukry became chief executive in February 2025.
