Overview
Research covered about 120 exploration and production, oilfield services and midstream companies plus more than 30 REITs as of 2019. Coverage has since expanded into technology, media and telecom, consumer and financials, including business development companies. Capital One Securities presents itself as pairing a large bank's breadth with a boutique's focus. As of 2026 it says its senior research staff average 15 or more years of experience. It markets the research and events, including a New Orleans energy conference held for the 20th time in December 2025, to about 400 institutional investors.
The firm was founded in New Orleans in 1990 as Southcoast Capital, a Gulf South investment bank offering corporate finance, equity research and institutional sales and trading. Hibernia Corporation acquired it in April 2000, renaming it Hibernia Southcoast Capital. Capital One bought Hibernia in November 2005, and the unit operated as Capital One Southcoast until February 2013, when it was renamed Capital One Securities, Inc.
